David A. Mellis

Resident Faculty
Natonality: USA

One of the original team members at CIID, David has returned to Copenhagen to teach in the pilot year. In between, he spent a year as a software developer and interaction designer at Synthesis Studios in Cambridge, Massachusetts. David graduated from the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea as part of its last batch of two-year master’s students in 2006. His thesis explored interfaces for visualizing and exploring the behavior of computer programs using the medium of source code. While at Interaction-Ivrea, David co-developed the Arduino open-source electronics prototyping platform, which allows designers, artists, and students to quickly and cheaply create interactive prototypes and installations. He earned a bachelor’s in mathematics from MIT in 2003, and has been programming for as long as he can remember.
